Credit Suisse sees China tax cuts within weeks

HONG KONG, Jan 6 (Reuters) - China could announce tax cuts around the time of the Lunar New Year holiday late this month to spur consumption and shore up economic growth, investment bank Credit Suisse said on Tuesday.

MasterCard acquires Orbiscom for $100-million

MasterCard Inc. bought Ireland-based software provider Orbiscom Ltd. for about $100-million (U.S.) to help improve its electronic-payments products. Part of the purchase price depends on the future performance of Orbiscom, MasterCard said yesterday in a statement, without saying how much. The software firm has worked with the credit card network on a transactions product that Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC used for business-card clients, MasterCard said. MasterCard, which collects fees to shuttle payments between financial institutions, is trying to strengthen its product offerings to bank customers amid consolidations caused by the global credit crunch. MasterCard said last year it was freezing hiring to control costs as the slowdown threatens the company's revenue targets.
