Almost 20 percent of German mobile users dispose of their old mobile phone in an environmental friendly manner, with 13 percent returning the mobile phone to the mobile operator and 6 percent brining the old phone to an electronics disposal point, according to a survey by market researcher Aris for German ICT federation Bitkom. The study also found that four percent of German mobile users has actually thrown in the trash, while 28 percent gives the old phone to family or friends for them to use and 7 percent donates the phone to charity. Other findings include that the average age of a mobile phone is 2.5 years, while over 65 year olds have the oldest mobile phones with 37 percent having a phone older than 4 years, compared to 12 percent of Germans between 14 and 29.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities said an Iowa City man has been charged with sending more than 500 text messages from a stolen cell phone. Police accuse 21-year-old Christopher Smead of taking a cell phone from a locker room at a fitness center and using it without the owner's consent. Police said Smead sent text messages from early Friday until late into the evening. Police say Smead was charged with fifth-degree theft.
