The Lancet Recants Study Linking Autism To Vaccine

JamJam writes "The Lancet, a major British medical journal, has retracted a flawed study linking the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine to autism and bowel disease. British surgeon and medical researcher Andrew Wakefield and his colleagues originally released their study in 1998. Since then 10 of Wakefield's 13 co-authors have renounced the study's conclusions and The Lancet has said it should never have published the research. Wakefield now faces being stripped of his right to practice medicine in Britain. The vaccine-autism debate should now end."

2nd U.K. study counters U.S. study on CFS and XMRV virus

British researchers who evaluated tissue from 170 chronic fatigue syndrome patients said they did not find signs of the infectious mouse virus called XMRV in the samples. The study is the second from the U.K. to counter findings of a U.S. study that linked the virus to the disease. "Following the findings reported here, it would seem a prudent next step for subsequent studies to compare samples and protocols between different laboratories around the world," the researchers said.

Study: Few teachers, schools educate students on cybersecurity

http://thehill.com/blogs/hillicon-valley/technology/83757-study-few-teachers-schools-educate-students-on-cybersecurity By Tony Romm Hillicon Valley 02/25/10 At least three out of four public school teachers have little to no recent training on Internet safety, according to a new study. And while more than 90 percent of school administrators believe cybersecurity education is crucial, just over one-third of surveyed officials said their schools even offered such classes as part of their curricula, the study continues. Both numbers are part of the newly released State of K-12 Cyberethics, Cybersafety and Cybersecurity Curriculum in the U.S. poll, commissioned by the National Cyber Security Alliance and Microsoft, and conducted by Zogby. Together, the data suggest a dire need for comprehensive Internet security and ethics education in public

Another Study On Violent Video Games

Another study has been conducted on the impact of violent video games. The study not only found that video games turn you into killers, it also highlighted the fact that researchers get tons of funding to study subjects that have been proved-disproved-proved-disproved-proved-disproved ad nauseam. roll eyes (sarcastic)

Dutch study contradicts U.S. findings on CFS and XMRV virus

A Dutch study involving European patients with chronic fatigue syndrome failed to find a link between the disease and a virus called XMRV, thus contradicting a U.S. study that associated the disease with the virus. The study is the latest to challenge the U.S. findings. Previously, two separate U.K. studies also failed to find a link between the virus and the condition.

Well, that was a hell of a week in the world of game news now wasn’t it? Seems appropriate we’re reviewing the soundtrack album for Dante’s Inferno. Actually, I’ve wanted to share this one with you for a couple weeks now, but, just like the embarrassment of riches of quality game titles being released, video game soundtracks are enjoying a similar deluge of releases. Apple says iPhone users don't mind being on hold, a dig at Verizon

The company pumped out three new adverts over the weekend which focus on the array of iPhone apps available. The first advert entitled "On Hold" demonstrates the ability to use a 3G data connection whilst being placed on hold during a call. The person in the advert states "with the iPhone I don't even mind being on hold" and goes on to check emails, make payments and play games whilst remaining on hold. The advert is a clear attack on Verizon's CDMA network which is unable to transmit calls and data at the same time. Only GSM networks such as AT&T are able to. The main advantage is being able to tether your device on a GSM network and talk at the same time.

Just a quarter of UK retailers are on Twitter: study

Just 26% of retailers in the UK have a Twitter account, and 24% a Facebook page, and most are not making the most of these, according to a new study. Scientists find gene variant link to ageing cells

LONDON, Feb 7 (Reuters) Scientists have found specific genetic variants which may explain why some people age earlier than others and say their findings have important implications for understanding cancer and age-related diseases. Dutch and British researchers analysed more than 500,000 genetic variations from human gene maps and found that people with particular variants near a gene called TERC were likely to be biologically older by 3 to 4 years. ''What our study suggests is that some people are genetically programmed to age at a faster rate. The effect was quite considerable in those with the variant,'' said Tim Spector from King's College London, who co-led the study. In a study published in the Nature Genetics journal, the scientists explained that there are two forms of ageing -- chronological ageing, counted in years, and biologic
