Mame: The country may be teetering on the abyss of economic disaster, but one intrepid woman still maintains: "Life is a banquet." Patrick Dennis' novel about an orphan and his madcap auntie during the anything-goes Twenties and the hangover of the Great Depression provided Rosalind Russell with one of the best roles of her career in the 1958 film. Jerry Herman's 1966 musical, starring Angela Lansbury, added tuneful gems such as "If He Walked Into My Life," "We Need a Little Christmas," and the title number. Two fine actors fill Mame's high heels in this production. Barbara Robertson, recently seen as Madame Morrible in "Wicked," will be onstage through Nov. 16, and Kat Taylor handles the last half of the run. William Osetek directs.
