Those rainbow warriors/whiners/heroes/charlatans (pick whatever makes you tick) from Greenpeace have released their new Guide to Greener Electronics. There have been plenty of changes compared to last year, with many manufacturers going up, but others going down. Nokia is now at the top, near the 7 over 10 mark, but Nintendo keeps crashing at 1 over 10. What about Greenpeace's archenemy Apple? Despite their latest efforts, it keeps failing ad drops to the 14th position. It seems they are not impressed by Apple's latest green ads:

A study of online advertising was recently released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers. What it revealed is that internet advertising is growing despite the economic downturn. Total online advertising revenue for the third quarter neared $5.9 billion. That’s an 11% improvement from last year’s third quarter and a slight 2% gain from the previous quarter. The study also concluded that year-to-date web advertising has brought in $17.3 billion, which is an improvement from $15.2 billion through three quarters in 2007. This study should not be considered the final authority on interactive advertising, but it does demonstrate an apparent resilience in the face of economic hardship.

ET Net News Agency, 11 November 2008> CLSA's analyst Daniel Tabbush said the key feature of HSBC (00005) Bank USA's latest results isn't the US$136m loss, but the 34% rise in criticised assets QoQ to US$5.8bn. Tabbush noted that its impairment costs were up just 9% QoQ. Strong "fair value" gains at both HSBC Bank USA and HSBC Finance supported earnings, despite losses: Finance's US$1.8bn of Other Income limited its loss to US$300m (from a $1.4bn shortfall in 2Q08). He maintained his 27% lower group earnings forecast for this year, rating the stock "sell". Tabbush also noted there's no talk of the pending headquarters sale, which he believes is now unlikely to go through. (KL)
