Trojan Horse Steals 500k Bank, Credit Card Log-ons

A sophisticated cybercrime group that has maintained an especially devious Trojan horse for nearly three years has stolen the log-ons to more than 300,000 online bank accounts and almost as many credit cards during that time, a security company said today.

Automatically mount encrypted filesystems at login with pam_mount

The pam_mount project lets you unlock an encrypted filesystem automatically when you log in. The same password used to log in is used as the key to unlock the encrypted filesystem, so you only need to type it once. Using this method, you can easily share a laptop and have only a single user's home directory unlocked and mounted when he logs in. And pam_mount can mount any filesystem, not just encrypted filesystems, so you can use it, for example, with an NFS share that you are interested in but which you might not like to leave mounted when you are not logged in.

java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Broken pipe

I got this exception in the production twice in the same week and created a huge log file with the exception stack trace until the space available. As a result the production server went down.I was unable to start the production server due to lack of space on the mounted disks. I have deleted very old log files for making some free space and then able to start the production application server and run. I am using connection pooling to connect with Oracle 9i from weblogic 9.2 server. I am willing to know the root cause for this issue.I thought of simulating this issue by restarting the oracle database when the application server(weblogic) is still up and running with the old connection pools. But couldn't simulate the issue again?

Valve Releases Steam Cloud

"Funny news title aside, Valve has announced that Steam Cloud will be rolled out later this month. Steam Cloud allows PC users to share data from their PC to any other PC they log into with their Steam account. This means that players' key mappings, spray paints and other configuration settings will transfer to any PC they log into."

Business.com Announces Open Source CloudBase at 1st International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo

Business.com has announced the availability of CloudBase, a high-performance data warehouse system that scales horizontally on commodity hardware or a cloud computing network. Business.com Releases Open Source Query Tool

Santa Monica-based business search engine and directory firm Business.com said Friday that it has launched a new, open source software application focused on data warehousing. The unusual move--Business.com is best known for its aggregated business search listings and information, rather than software--makes technology internally developed for the firm available to any developer. According to Business.com, the new software--"CloudBase"--is a spinout of technology developed for the firm internally for web log analysis. The firm said that the tool can be used by business analysts to query large-scale log files from web sites, telecommunications, or IT applications using SQL queries, without requiring use of a relational database. The software is available for free from the Sourceforge.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Gaming’s most famous bear-with-a-bird-in-his-backpack has been languishing in retirement for some years now. Once one of Rare’s most iconic platform game duos, Banjo and his Breegull sidekick Kazooie have been consigned to the has-been bin, a fact that the game tackles head on during its humorous start. Nuts and Bolts pulls back the curtain on the overweight, out-of-shape pair as they sit around eating high-fat snack food and playing games. Having defeated their nemesis, the evil witch Gruntilda in the previous game, they’ve had nothing to occupy their time. Into this situation bursts a tall, mysterious character with a television for a head: the Lord of Games, or Log for short. Log has created a slew of videogame worlds in which he wants the duo to battle the newly freed Gruntilda and with the challenge set, you’re off.

Kernel Log: More than 10 million lines of Linux source files

"Programs like SLOCCount can be used to inspect the Linux kernel's source code in more detail. According to this tool, the source code line count is not 9 million but exactly 6,399,191 (Source Lines of Code/SLOC), as the program doesn't count blank lines, comments and several other types of input. More than half of the lines are part of hardware drivers; the second largest chunk is the arch/ directory which contains the source code of the various architectures supported by Linux."
