AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, BUSINESS WIRE -- Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security, today introduces Ezio Thin Reader, a revolutionary new miniature, easy-to-use authentication device for online banking. The credit card-sized reader fits in a wallet, so that users can carry it with them wherever they go. For online customers, having their authentication device and their banking card together at hand brings the ultimate in convenience. In addition, Ezio Thin Reader features a regular keypad to provide excellent usability. The device is compliant with the latest industry standards - MasterCard CAP* and Visa DPA* - and accepts any type of EMV smart cards. Gemalto will demonstrate Ezio Thin Reader at "Cartes & IDentification" next week.

Thin client leader adds Linux option

The world's largest thin-client vendor has taken aggressive steps in the fast-growing market for Linux-based thin clients. NASA Certifies Alcoa As Sole Supplier of Al-Li Alloy for Ares 1

Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that NASA has certified its Davenport, Iowa, facility as the only supplier in the U.S. to produce aluminum-lithium alloy 2195 thin plate for the Ares 1 crew launch vehicle, the rocket that will enable astronauts to explore space beyond low earth orbit with the goal of reaching the moon by 2020. Davenport will produce almost 1 million pounds of the thin aluminum-lithium material for this program. The Alcoa Technical Center near Pittsburgh is casting the aluminum-lithium ingot and shipping it to Davenport, where it is rolled into thin plate for additional fabrication.

Solyndra's Thin-Film Solar Cells Draw $1.2 Billion In Orders

SolarSells writes "Solyndra makes funky-looking cylindrical solar cells that resemble compact fluorescent lightbulbs. Their products are meant for office buildings, and are made from a thin coating of copper indium gallium diselenide on glass tubes. Although they might not be able to fill them till 2012, the company has already received $1.2 billion in orders. Their manufacturing tricks make the cells so cheap that they may be competitive with other forms of power even after solar subsidies are phased out."
